A landmark park for the North-West of Cork, Ireland

We are thrilled to be at the forefront of a transformative vision for the new North-West City Park, alongside the Cork City Council – Comhairle Cathrach Chorcaí and a key network of collaborators, stakeholders, and community groups. This landmark project will deliver an impressive 116 hectares of public open space on the edge of the city, designed to support recreation, while harmonizing with the pastoral and the wild. The park’s unique landscape identity will boast social, cultural, economic, and environmental benefits, a bold long-term investment in enhancing the quality of life of Cork’s communities for generations to come.

Designing resilience for Cork’s future

Set within a picturesque hillside farmland landscape, the park will play a pivotal role in addressing the long-standing shortfall in green space provision and urban connectivity across Cork City’s north and north-west. In addition to enriching the area’s cultural and natural heritage, the design places a strong emphasis on social inclusion, community engagement, urban liveability, and the promotion of health and wellbeing. It will serve as an inclusive place for all generations and the natural world alike.

It is recognised as a strategic objective within the Cork City Development Plan 2022–2028, supporting a more sustainable urban future. Through the integration of green-blue infrastructure, the park is envisioned as a natural buffer zone, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change, including flood risks and biodiversity loss.

‘The design reimagines a park where all ages gather to enjoy nature, but to also engage in its stewardship. It’s a bold statement of how urban fringes can nurture both ecology and community, setting a new standard for green spaces globally.’

A community-led vision

Together with Cork City Council, we have held a series of public and stakeholder engagement events, including workshops and visits to local schools and community associations. Special efforts for inclusive communal engagement to involve young people, families, older residents, and underrepresented communities remain central to the project.

We look forward to sharing more on the North-West City Park project as work on the masterplan evolves!

Marina Park: A landmark for the East of Cork

Marina Park, a widely acclaimed urban initiative in Cork, delivers on the long-standing vision of establishing a regional park to the east. Though distinct in scale and character, both Marina Park and the emerging North-West City Park stand as powerful regional parks, each playing a vital role in shaping Cork’s green infrastructure. Together, the two designs embody a shared commitment for ecological integrity and communal wellbeing, setting a precedent for inclusive, sustainable urban landscapes.
