Official start of execution phase in Gullegem!
Yesterday marked the official start of the execution phase of Gullemen centre transformation, in Belgium. The mayor, the alderman responsible for public space, our associate Tom Wierts together with our collaborators from Atelier Ruimtelijk Advies (ARA), Dierendonckblancke Architects, and Veldhuis Architects, gathered to celebrate the official start of works.
We renew our enthusiasm to have the opportunity to work closely together with the Municipality to bring this vision to life in the next three years!
The renovation of Gullegem’s town centre is well underway. The central car park has already been removed to make way for a new car-free zone, where a modern meeting centre will soon take shape. Moreover, the design includes the restoration of the Heulebeek stream which will open up to a climate-adaptive park.
Together, these interventions shape a forward-looking and integrated vision that reinforces the town’s identity, enhances accessibility and livability for residents, and supports a climate-resilient future.

More space for people and nature
The centre of Gullegem is undergoing an inspiring transformation. A combined intervention will provide the area with more space for residents and their activities. It also strengthens the character and identity of the place. However, above all it focuses on creating more space for nature. This creates a future-proof dynamic climate-adaptive heart of the village.
