Making Hillegom even more beautiful
The redevelopment of the 3.5-hectare Van Nispenpark to a design by OKRA landscape architects is part of the city centre plans of the municipality of Hillegom. With the implementation of the centre plans, we make Hillegom, which is surrounded by the famous Dutch flower bulb fields, even more beautiful!
Open and inviting park
The Van Nispenpark will be an open and inviting park that suits the village and its surroundings. The design is based on the historical allotment of the flower bulb fields. This is reflected in the routing and planting in the park. The design brings more biodiversity to the park with a large water feature, wadis and nature-friendly banks and with beautiful flower beds with bee and butterfly-friendly plants and bird-friendly shrubs and trees. With the water feature, the Van Nispenpark and the surrounding area are climate adaptive and prepared for the negative effects of climate change.
Active and attractive park
The Nispenpark will also be an active park, with plenty of space for cultural activities, sports and games. Some of the removed trees have been reused to create natural play areas. The stage at the event field offers space for music, theatre and dance performances. Linked to the Hoofdstraat (the main street) there is space for terraces. A nice attraction in the Van Nispenpark is the Beatles Monument. This monument recalls the first concert of The Beatles in the Netherlands in 1964 in a concert hall in Hillegom. This concert has gone into history as ‘the forgotten concert’.
