OKRA is shortlisted for the Zero Carbon Meridian Water Contest

The shortlist for the Zero Carbon Meridian Water Contest has been disclosed. On the list is Urban Space Maker – an international design team led by OKRA landschapsarchitecten, joined by Pop-Up City, the Environmental Technology group from Wageningen University & Research, Studio RAP as well as &\also thinktank (Hawkings\Brown’s in-house research consultancy).

Our proposal seeks to enhance the sustainability of the masterplan for the second phase of development at Meridian Water in Enfield, North London. Our big idea is called the Urban Space Maker – a means by which the circular economy becomes tangible, exciting and accessible to everyone. We imagine a local production line where collected waste is processed by a 3D print robot to produce new building materials for the construction of Meridian Water. The Urban Space Maker will be a living lab which tests, embeds and showcases the circular economy within the urban masterplan development.

Other projects in London
OKRA has previously developed a climate-proof strategy for Meridian Water, with a blue-green framework for the public space. OKRA is also active in other places in London with urban planning and spatial tasks, such as Smithfield Market in the City of London and Upton and Raynham Road in Enfield.
