For the new office of the European Medicines Agency, OKRA has made a design for a lush landscape ribbon with organic shapes from street level to the top of the building. One of the major eye-catching features in the landscape ribbon is the vertical garden in the atrium of the building. This green wall, with a spectacular size of 21 metres wide and no less than 60 metres high, and containing more than 52,000 plants, connects the coffee lounge on the 3rd floor with all office floors up to the 19th floor.
The green wall has a three-dimensional sculptural character that emphasises the lushness of the landscape ribbon. The wall consists of a combination of a plants and natural stone surfacing that follow the organic lineation. In order to guarantee good growth, daylight lamps have been installed. These will light up during the day in various scenes (pre-programmed patterns) in order to bring the sculpture to life.
