Final design Eastern Railroad set

OKRA has put the finishing touch on the final design of the Eastern Railroad in Utrecht. In consultation with local residents, it was decided to give the area a natural look. In addition, the district has voted for the variant where the cycle route partly on and partly adjacent to the embankment. In this way, a varied route is created.

As a reminder of the past railway use is made of recycled rails in the sidewalks and recreational places. The historical line will remain visible by preserving the trace portals, and planting of accompanying column beech.

Early next year, a start will be made with the rehabilitation of the former railway in the east of the city. Next to this the Eastern Railroad Park will be developed. The green trail park will eventually become a major bicycle and pedestrian connection between the inner harbor and the outskirts of Utrecht.
By also making a connection with the Krommerijnpad the new network connects to the most heavily used railway hiking trail in the Netherlands
