A great step for the Masterplan Brainpark I: Rotterdam’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen has adopted the plan. The office park will be renovated into an attractive place to live and work. We look forward to working with the design team to make the redevelopment of Brainpark I a healthy, green and lively neighbourhood.
Green meeting places
The Max Euwe Kwartier kicks off the transformation of Brainpark I in Rotterdam with an ensemble of residential and public facilities in a green environment. In the design by OKRA landscape architects, the surrounding landscape penetrates the Max Euwe Quarter with a playful integration of paths and places to stay. Passageways are created between the buildings, surrounded by a lush palette of biodiverse plants and trees. This creates a lively green area for residents to meet. The two inner courtyards form social hubs with access to the underlying parking garage. The network of collective roof gardens also offers space for residents to meet, while enhancing urban biodiversity on site.
The team
The existing office buildings along Max Euwelaan, owned by BAKKERS | HOMMEN, make way for three city blocks designed by GROUP A, ZZDP Architecten and STIJNVANDENBOOGAARD ARCHITECTURE. The program combines approximately 775 social and mid-rental apartments with collective mobility facilities, catering and a communal garden with roof gardens designed by OKRA landscape architects. The design for the Max Euwe Quarter is anchored in the already established Masterplan Brainpark I of the municipality of Rotterdam.
