Climate adaption requires urban resiliency, public realm in cities capable of being prepared for, respond to, and recover from significant multi-hazard threats with minimum damage to public safety and health, the economy, and security. OKRA is convinced that it is crucial to create resilient and climate proof cities by designing integrated water and drought management and heat island effect mitigation solutions into the public realm. Creating ‘blue-green networks’ in Healthy Cities today will ensure that cities are resilient enough to be here tomorrow. Linking the water system to the green network, cities can maximize the filtration of surface water, recharge groundwater, and capture storm water for reuse. Additionally, investments in these types of networks act as a catalyst for development.
