Increasingly, a higher number of people are living within city limits; the world is becoming rapidly urbanized. OKRA’s challenge is to create Healthy Cities; bringing landscape to the cities can strongly contribute to a holistic approach combining the idea of ‘resilient city ‘, ‘accessible city’ and ‘vibrant city’. The Healthy Cities strengthen the urban metabolism, while also addressing externalities, like urban heat island effect, clean air, increased storm events, and sea level rise. Holistic and systems-based solutions for healthy, vibrant living environments do include improved multi-modal transportation, providing a new balance between different types of mobility. Vibrant city life will be linked to economic self-sufficiency, strong communities, and taking advantage of programmatic change. In a city that functions well, people feel connected to their environment and develop new initiatives.
